Note: This 1958 Burst has been in a collection for over 30 years. Therefore, it hasn’t been circulated during that time. This is also why we’ve chosen to cover the serial number of the guitar. In our experience dealing with Bursts, some Burst-owners prefer to keep that information private. We will leave it up to the next owner to decide whether or not to go public with the serial number. (The guitar is registered in the Burst Serial.)
1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Sunburst “Burst”
We present an original 1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Sunburst “Burst”. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This is an incredible and exceptional all original 1958 Burst. Overall, this guitar is in excellent and very clean condition with minor nicks, dings, finish checking, and other cosmetic wear – truly an exceptionally stunning piece of guitar history. It features beautiful finish checking across the body and back of the neck, adding to the breathtaking vibe of this vintage guitar. There are some play-wear spots on the back of the neck – a true testament to how loved this guitar was by the previous owner – but overall, it remains in stunning condition.
The most eye-catching feature of this guitar is, without a doubt, the beautiful maple top. The amount of Birdseye figuring in the maple is extraordinary. The Cherry Sunburst finish is incredibly clean and has barely faded – the red remains strong and warm. Every single screw and part is original to the guitar and untouched. Nothing has ever been changed.
It features a 1-piece mahogany body, a 1-piece mahogany neck, and a dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid celluloid inlays. The original Kluson tuners turn and function perfectly, still featuring the original tuner buttons – all of which are intact, work great, and haven’t shrunk, as some do over time. All the nickel hardware is incredibly clean and shiny, looking nearly new. The original nut and small frets are in stunning condition with plenty of life left. The headstock is overall quite clean with some finish checking, although the ‘Les Paul Model’ silkscreen is faded – a common trait seen on many Bursts. It’s still visible when viewed from certain angles.
This 1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard features two original P.A.F. (Patent Applied For) humbuckers that sound incredible and powerful. They are very well balanced. Many years ago, the pickup covers were removed – not uncommon, as many did this to achieve a different sound. The pickups themselves are 100% undisturbed, and the “Patent Applied For” decals beneath both pickups are as clean as they come. The control cavity and toggle switch cavity are untouched and remain 100% factory stock.
Aside from re-done solder on the pickup covers, the pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact – with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. All original and 100% correct.
Comes complete with its original brown hardshell case with pink interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
