1963 Fender Jaguar – Black – Gold Hardware
We present an all-original 1963 Fender Jaguar in its original Black custom color finish with factory gold hardware, made in Fullerton, California.
History
The Fender Jaguar was introduced by Fender in 1962 as their new top-of-the-line model, designed to appeal to professional players—particularly within the rapidly growing surf music scene. With its shorter scale length, complex switching system, and bright, cutting tones, the Jaguar was Fender’s most advanced and expensive instrument upon release.
It features a beautifully dark rosewood fingerboard with clay dot inlays, showing the classic early-’60s Fender aesthetic.
Finding a pre-CBS Jaguar in original Black with factory gold hardware is exceptionally rare—bordering on impossible. Custom color Jaguars from this era are scarce in their own right, and the combination of a Black finish with gold hardware is simply breathtaking.
Condition
This rare pre-CBS example is an absolute joy to play. The body displays beautiful nitrocellulose lacquer checking, along with nicks, dings, and honest cosmetic wear on both the front and back—exactly what you want to see on a well-preserved vintage instrument. There is visible playwear, including belt buckle wear on the back.
The original mint green pickguard is flawless, showing no cracks or breaks. The original gold “one-line” Kluson tuners are in excellent condition and function perfectly. The neck is straight, and the truss rod works as intended. There are some playwear spots on the back of the neck. Over time, some of the factory gold hardware has naturally faded, adding to its authentic vintage character, yet it remains in overall fantastic condition. The original nut and frets still have plenty of life left. The original tremolo arm is lost and was missing many years ago, and is therefore not included.
Acoustically, the guitar is exceptionally resonant—the kind that responds with depth and character from the very first chord. This translates seamlessly when amplified, delivering a dynamic and expressive playing experience.
Originality
This guitar is 100% original throughout—just as it left the Fullerton factory in 1963.
The electronics and wiring remain untouched and fully intact, with no broken solder joints or rewound pickups. No modifications – all original and 100% correct.
It comes complete with its original white Tolex Fender hardshell case, with all latches and the handle fully functional.
