1965 Gibson SG Standard – Cherry
We present an all original 1965 Gibson SG Standard in its original Cherry finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This gorgeous piece is a true vintage beauty in near mint condition. The SG has excellent weight, delivering a killer, resonant tone and feel. Overall, the guitar has a stunning appearance with only minor play wear. The Cherry finish remains a strong red with no fading. This Gibson features a one-piece slender mahogany narrow neck with nicely aged cream binding and black side dots. Beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. The original frets show no wear. Kluson Deluxe tuners are in perfect working condition. The neck is straight, and the truss rod functions properly.
The solid mahogany body is also one piece. Gibson “Lyre” chrome tremolo tailpiece and Nickel ABR-1 bridge with adjustable nylon saddles. In 1965, Gibson transitioned from nickel to chrome hardware, so it’s common to find a mix of both on instruments from this period. The black pickguard is in excellent shape with no cracks and only slight warping. Gibson “Patent Number” humbuckers with chrome covers and black bezels. Dual volume and tone controls with black knobs and a 3-way toggle switch.
It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1965.
The SG comes with its original case, featuring a black exterior and plush yellow/orange interior. The original latches and handle are also intact.
Pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and correct.
