Description & Specifications

1950 Fender Broadcaster – Blond

We present an all original and 100% complete 1950 Fender Broadcaster in a Blond finish, made in Fullerton, California. The 1950 Fender Broadcaster is the first commercial electric guitar in the world — the one that started it all.

The history of this incredible piece is as follows:

It was purchased by a student in the late ’50s from his teacher. The student was a hobby guitarist who never intended to sell the guitar — and never did. He passed away 20 years ago, and the Broadcaster was passed on to his son. About eight months ago, the son passed away, and no one in the family felt the need to keep it. As a result, his widow sold it outside Denver, Colorado.

This 1950 Fender Broadcaster is in overall excellent condition, with minor nicks and dings, and shows signs of natural, honest playwear around the body and neck. No breaks or repairs. The original Blond finish on this Broadcaster still looks beautiful and has a touch of mojo — no touch-ups or overspray. 100% original Blond finish! Both pickups are perfect and well-balanced. Overall, this 1950 Fender Broadcaster sounds incredibly good, with remarkable resonance and tone.

It features an incredibly solid, lightweight ash body and a wonderfully shaped fretted maple neck with 21 frets and black dot position markers. The frets are in excellent condition with plenty of life left. It has a single “round” string tree on the headstock, with individual closed-shell Kluson Deluxe tuners marked “PAT APPLD 2356766,” featuring oval metal buttons and slot-head screws.

Taller dome knobs and all screws on this guitar are slot-head screws, as they should be — including the truss rod. The headstock, with its original maple plug, is as clean as it gets, with the original and crisp Fender Broadcaster decal. The original brass saddles on the bridge intonate perfectly. The neck pocket reads “Thadio / 11-13-50.” Blackguard Telecaster aficionados will note that the spelling “Thadio” (as opposed to the more common “Tadeo” Gomez) appears on several Broadcasters. See Nacho Baños’ fabulous book The Blackguard for more examples.

This incredible historical piece is 100% original throughout – just like it left the Fullerton factory back in 1950.

The pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.

Comes complete with the original Bulwin “Thermometer” case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
