1955 Fender Precision Bass “Blackguard” – Blond
We’re proud to present an all original and 100% complete 1955 Fender Precision Bass in its original Blond finish with black lacquered pickguard. This rare pre-CBS example was made in Fullerton, California, and stands as a stunning representation of early Fender craftsmanship. As an early 1955 model, it still features several 1954-style appointments, making it a highly collectible transitional piece. It comes with its extremely rare original Poodle hardshell case.
Condition
This bass is in great condition for its age, showing honest play wear that reflects a lifetime of use and love. There’s some belt buckle wear on the back, a few nicks and dings, and overall cosmetic wear that gives it authentic vintage character. The original Blond finish has aged beautifully over the ash body, and the lacquer still shows great depth and warmth. The one-piece maple neck is clean with only minor play spots, and both the original frets and nut still have plenty of life left. The headstock face is unusually clean, and the chrome hardware is well-preserved. Overall, it’s a lightweight and exceptionally resonant instrument with a feel and patina only time can create.
Originality
This 1955 Precision Bass is 100% original throughout. The original single-coil pickup delivers a deep, full sound with excellent clarity and balance, showcasing the unique tonal characteristics that make early P-Basses so sought after. The black lacquered pickguard, chrome hardware, and one-piece maple neck are all original to the instrument, just as it left the Fender factory in Fullerton. It also includes its rare original Poodle hardshell case, which remains in fully functional condition with all latches and handle intact.
This is one of the finest examples of a 1950s Fender Precision Bass we’ve had the pleasure of offering — a true collector’s piece with tone, feel, and history to match.
Pickup and the electronics/wiring remains untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickup. All original and correct.
