1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom – 2-Pickup – Factory Bigsby
We present an original 1958 Gibson Les Paul Custom “Black Beauty” with rare 2-pickup configuration and factory Bigsby. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This 1958 Les Paul Custom is exceptional in every sense and incredibly rare, as Gibson mostly only made Les Paul Custom models with a 3-pickup configuration, and only very few with 2 pickups like this one — some say maybe 15–20 examples. Furthermore, this guitar was custom-ordered with a Bigsby tailpiece.
Condition
Overall, this Les Paul is in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs. It has some nicks, dings, and wear, which give this guitar an amazing vibe and mojo—something you just can’t recreate. There is a “belt-buckle” scratch on the back of the body where the finish has worn off to the bare wood. It features beautiful finish checking all over the body and neck. The gold-plated nickel hardware has faded a bit over the years, especially on the pickup covers and saddle, which gives this historical guitar an amazing look. Overall, the gold still pops and looks stunning. The original frets are in great shape with a lot of life left in them.
Originality
This guitar is all original besides a new handcrafted nut — otherwise, it’s completely as it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1958. It features a one-piece, and actually quite lightweight, mahogany body, and a one-piece bound mahogany neck with mother-of-pearl block inlays and ebony fingerboard. Not to forget the iconic bound headstock with pearl inlay and pearl Gibson logo. The original Kluson waffleback tuning machines turn nicely and work perfectly, and even come with the original pearloid tuner buttons. This guitar features the original factory Bigsby with the original mother-of-pearl plugs underneath—one of the many indicators that this Bigsby is original to the guitar.
It features the two original “Patent Applied For” pickups, also known as P.A.F. pickups, that sound absolutely incredible and extremely clear. The infamous P.A.F. pickups were only produced from late 1956 until late 1962 and are probably the most highly regarded pickups of all time. The two pickups are well-balanced and completely untouched — pickup covers have never been removed.
Pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. All original and correct.
Comes complete with its original black Gibson hardshell case with yellowing lining. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
