1961 Gibson Melody Maker – Sunburst
We present an all original 1961 Gibson Melody Maker in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Overall, this guitar is in absolutely stunning condition — near mint with only minor cosmetic wear. The original frets are in great shape with plenty of life left in them. The guitar is perfect!
This 1961 Melody Maker features the desirable wider nut width of 1-11/16″ and a full-scale length. It’s definitely a joy to play and stands out as a fantastic solid-body Gibson electric guitar from the golden era. It has a one-piece single-cutaway mahogany body and a one-piece mahogany neck with a dark rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays.
The single-coil pickup is strong and well-balanced. The original open-back Kluson tuners turn smoothly, and the cream tuner buttons look beautiful with no crumbling—unlike many others from this era. It has a black single-layer pickguard and an aluminum lightweight wrap-over tailpiece.
It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1961.
The pickup and electronics/wiring remain completely untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickup. All original and 100% correct.
Comes with its original chipboard case. Latches are in perfect working order, but the handle is missing.
