1962 Fender Deluxe Amp 6G3 – Brownface
We present an original 1962 Fender Deluxe Amp 6G3 – Brownface. Made in Fullerton, California.
This Fender Deluxe Amp was manufactured at the beginning of the brief Brownface era. The amp features a thoroughly serviced 6G3 circuit with original transformers, offering the perfect middle ground between the warmth and dynamic range of the preceding Tweed amps and the clarity and chime of the Blackface amps introduced a few years later. The tone controls offer an impressive range — everything from rich, mellow tones to twangy, crystalline bite is available at the turn of a knob. The bias-based tremolo circuit is deep and throbbing, with a smooth waveform and a tone that delivers an almost three-dimensional quality. It’s truly one of the best examples of this classic Fender effect.
Overall, it’s in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Cosmetically, this amp is remarkably clean, featuring the original brown tolex and wheat grill cloth. The original chassis straps, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet) are intact. The faceplate gleams and retains its full complement of brown barrel knobs.
The circuit includes the original Schumacher transformers. The Stackpole pots are virtually all original, with the exception of a new vibrato intensity pot. The Stackpole pots date to the first week of 1961. The preamp retains original cloth-covered wiring, numerous original carbon comp resistors, and blue molded Ajax tone capacitors. It has been serviced with modern low-noise metal film resistors and Sprague Orange Drop tone capacitors. The power supply has been professionally recapped with Sprague Atoms. The original handle has been replaced with a new leather handle.
The original Oxford 12K5 speaker is intact, featuring a mint frame and a date code from the fourth week of 1962. It also retains the exceedingly rare brown metal bell cover on the magnet and the original Fender foil sticker. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is fully intact.
To operate it in original condition, a step-down transformer is required. We have these in stock and they can be purchased through Guitar Hunter.
A vintage Fender vibrato footswitch is included, likely dating from 1964 based on the black-painted exterior.
