Description & Specifications

1964 Gibson Firebird III – Cardinal Red

We present an original 1964 Firebird III in its original custom color Cardinal Red finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Condition

This historical custom color Firebird is in overall fantastic condition. Gibson custom colors from this era are extremely rare, especially on solid body guitars from 1964. Custom finishes were not something Gibson promoted heavily at the time, and this guitar is no exception. It features the iconic laminated neck through body construction and a comfortable neck profile. The rosewood fretboard retains its original binding, with the vibrant Cardinal Red finish extending over it. The Cardinal Red finish looks striking, with beautiful natural finish checking that gives the guitar an authentic vintage character. The original white pickguard shows the typical small crack around the toggle switch, which is common on Firebird III models, but it remains fully intact compared to many others. The original frets still have plenty of life left in them. Overall, this is a stunning and exceptionally good sounding guitar with tons of vintage vibe and authenticity.

Originality

This incredible ’64 Firebird is all original except for a newer nut. Otherwise it’s exactly like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1964. The 2x original mini-hum buckers are healthy and well-balanced, and of course completely untouched. It features the 6x original ‘Banjo’ tuners that all works as intended and turns smoothly.

Pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. All original and correct.

Comes complete with the original hardshell case. All Latches and handle is in perfect working order.
