Description & Specifications

1965 Gibson Firebird VII Non-Reverse – Sunburst

We present an original 1965 Gibson Firebird VII Non-Reverse in its original Sunburst finish, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is a rare and highly collectible top-of-the-line Firebird model, offered here in exceptional condition.

History

The Gibson Firebird series was introduced in 1963, developed by Gibson in collaboration with automotive designer Ray Dietrich. In 1965, Gibson introduced the Non-Reverse Firebird line, marking a significant design change from the earlier Reverse models.

The Firebird VII Non-Reverse represented the top-of-the-line model in the Firebird range, featuring upscale appointments and premium specifications. Production was relatively short-lived, ending around 1969/1970, making these guitars rare and highly desirable today.

With its elegant Sunburst finish, elaborate construction, and high-end features, the Firebird VII stands as one of the most refined and visually striking models in the Firebird lineup.

Condition

This 1965 Gibson Firebird VII Non-Reverse is in exceptional clean condition, showing only very light play wear with minimal nicks and dings. The original Sunburst finish is rich and vibrant, with beautiful light checking.

The mahogany body with through-neck construction is solid and resonant. The dark rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays is clean and well preserved. The original frets are in excellent condition with plenty of life left.

The three original mini-humbucker pickups are strong, clear, and well balanced, delivering the classic Firebird tone with clarity and punch. The guitar is fitted with its original ABR-1 bridge and Lyre Maestro Vibrola, functioning perfectly.

All gold hardware is in excellent condition, showing only light natural aging. The original gold Double line Kluson Deluxe 6-on-a-plate tuners are in great shape, and the guitar offers excellent playability with a perfect neck angle. This instrument plays and sounds fantastic.

Originality

This Firebird VII Non-Reverse is all original throughout, with the exception of a professionally made new nut. All other components including finish, pickups, electronics, wiring, and hardware—remain exactly as they left the Kalamazoo factory. The guitar retains its original gold hardware, Lyre Maestro Vibrola, bridge, knobs, tuners, and pickup covers.

The pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and fully intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.

Includes its original Gibson hardshell case. The case is in excellent condition and fully functional.
