1966 Fender Jazzmaster – Blue Ice Metallic
We present an original early 1966 Fender Jazzmaster in its rare and original Blue Ice Metallic finish with matching headstock. Made in Fullerton, California.
History
This breathtaking custom-color Jazzmaster is a very early ’66 example, featuring the distinctive ‘witch hat’ knobs, introduced around this time. A true collector’s piece and a standout from the Fender golden era.
Condition
Overall, this Jazzmaster is in excellent condition, with only minor nicks, dings, and typical cosmetic wear for its age. There are no breaks, cracks, or repairs. A few small areas on the back and sides of the body show finish wear down to the bare wood. The original Blue Ice Metallic finish is visually stunning, showing some natural fading that gives it a slightly greenish metallic hue — typical for this era due to Fender’s use of a heavier clear-coat post-CBS takeover.
The original frets and nut are in good condition, with plenty of life remaining. The original white pickguard is clean overall. It features an alder body and a beautifully straight maple neck with a dark rosewood fretboard. The original black headstock decal remains clean and fully intact.
Originality
This 1966 Fender Jazzmaster is 100% original throughout except for period-correct strap buttons — the previous owner had installed strap locks. Additionally, new foam has been added under the pickups to allow for height adjustment, which is standard practice and does not affect value. Apart from that, it remains just as it left the Fullerton factory in early 1966, including untouched solder joints.
It retains the six original double-line Kluson tuners, all functioning smoothly. The two original grey-bottom pickups are perfectly balanced and sound fantastic. It even includes the original tremolo arm.
The electronics and wiring are completely untouched — no rewound pickups, no broken solder joints. Everything is 100% correct and original.
Comes complete with the original black Fender hardshell case featuring an orange interior. All latches and handle are fully functional and in excellent condition.
