1967 Gibson ES-335 TD – Black (Custom Color)

We present an all original 1967 Gibson ES-335 TD in its original factory Black finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This 1967 Gibson ES-335 is a crazy rare piece of history since it’s a Custom Color in Black. It was custom ordered back then, since Gibson only did Cherry and Sunburst in that timeframe, very few were made an especially in Custom Color Black. Coming from the family of the original owner. Overall, it’s in great shape with few nicks, dings, finish checking and other cosmetic wear. No repairs!

The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlays. The original frets are great with a lot of life left. It also features original Kluson Deluxe double line/double ring tuning machines. All of them turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The Orange oval Gibson label has the serial number which matches that imprinted serial number back of the headstock.

The bridge is the original chrome Gibson Tune-o-Matic. Original black hat knobs, as well as the stock pickguard, switch tip and pickup covers. One of the Black hat knob has a crack. It’s fully functional and we will leave it as is. The stock “Patent Number” sticker humbuckers are powerful and undisturbed. If you look closely, it looks like the dot over the “I” is missing. It is not, you can clearly see the round circle (dot) under the Black paint that Gibson forgot to remove. That happened and seen before on other old Gibson’s. 100% factory stock!

Acoustically, the tone is very authoritative and clear, and this quality translates well to the pickups. The neck has a profile which is unique to Gibson in that periode, beginning as a fairly slender C neck at the nut and quickly growing in both depth and shoulder to bigger neck.

All pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups. All original and correct.

Come with its original case with black exterior and plush Yellow/Orange interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.

  • Nut width: 1-9/16″.
  • Neck pickup: 7.61 kOhm.
  • Bridge pickup: 8.09 kOhm.
  • Pots dated: 1967.
  • Weight: 3.56 Kilograms.
