Description & Specifications

1967 Gibson ES-335 TD – Black (Custom Color)

We present an all original 1967 Gibson ES-335 TD in its original factory Black finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This 1967 Gibson ES-335 is a crazy rare piece of history, as it’s a Custom Color in Black. It was custom ordered at the time, since Gibson only offered Cherry and Sunburst during that period. Very few were made — especially in Custom Color Black. Coming from the family of the original owner. Overall, it’s in great shape with a few nicks, dings, finish checking, and other cosmetic wear. No repairs!

The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlays. The original frets are in great condition with plenty of life left. It also features the original Kluson Deluxe double line/double ring tuning machines. All of them turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The orange oval Gibson label has the serial number, which matches the imprinted serial number on the back of the headstock.

The bridge is the original chrome Gibson Tune-o-Matic. Original black hat knobs, as well as the stock pickguard, switch tip, and pickup covers. One of the black hat knobs has a crack. It’s fully functional and we will leave it as is. The stock “Patent Number” sticker humbuckers are powerful and undisturbed. If you look closely, it may seem like the dot over the “I” is missing. It’s not—you can clearly see the round circle (dot) under the black paint that Gibson forgot to remove. This has happened before and has been seen on other vintage Gibson guitars. 100% factory stock!

Acoustically, the tone is very authoritative and clear, and this quality translates well to the pickups. The neck has a profile that is unique to Gibson during this period, beginning as a fairly slender C-shape at the nut and quickly growing in both depth and shoulder to a bigger neck.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1967.

All pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. All original and correct.

Comes with its original case with black exterior and plush yellow/orange interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
