1969 Gibson SG Custom – Walnut
We present an all original 1969 Gibson SG Custom in its original Walnut finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The SG Custom officially began life when the Les Paul moniker was dropped from what we now call the SG body, following its brief run from 1961 to 1963. The SG Custom featured three humbuckers and a Lyre tremolo, with a white finish until 1968, when the standard finish became walnut.
This Gibson SG Custom is stunning all the way. This 1969 model has no “Made in USA” stamp and no volute on the back of the headstock. It’s the true 1969 version —far more desirable. It features a solid mahogany body, a 3-piece neck, and a bound ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays. The original Maestro Lyre tremolo is in perfect working order.
The original Gibson pickups with patent number decals sound fantastic and are well-balanced. The pickup covers have never been disturbed. The controls include a 3-position toggle switch (neck, middle/bridge, and bridge) and volume/tone controls for the neck and bridge pickups. The middle pickup is factory-wired out of phase, which is original.
The neck has a very comfortable medium C-shape that’s a joy to play. Overall, this vintage Gibson SG is in great shape, showing nicks, dings, finish checking, and other cosmetic play wear. The original frets still have plenty of life left, including the nut. The gold hardware remains strong, with some nicely aged spots.
Pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact—no broken solder joints, no rewound pickups. All original and correct.
Comes complete with its original Gibson hardshell case with yellow interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
