1952 Gibson ES-125 – Black
This guitar was stolen. Contact us if you find it and you will be rewarded.
We present an original 1952 Gibson ES-125 in its original Black finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This spectacular vintage Gibson guitar is very rare because of the black finish. The ES-125 features an adjustable intonated bridge and trapeze tailpiece. This model was Gibson’s workhorse electric, and it’s not overly adorned with inlays and the like, which matches perfectly with this factory black finish for a stripped-down and bold look. The factory order number is missing the prefix letter A (A9421), making it one of the first guitars of 1952.
It’s great all the way around, with a bound top and back with cream binding. A great player with an amazing original P-90 pickup, structurally sound with no cracks or breaks. Only beautiful crackle finish with some wear and dings that give the guitar a great vibe and vintage appeal. As is common with these vintage guitars, the plastic tuner tips are cracked and crumbled. That’s why the tuners have been replaced with vintage reissue 3-on-a-plate with new screws, but the original tuners are included in the case. A strap button has also been added. The bridge has been glued to prevent movement. Apart from that, the guitar is completely original.
The neck is straight, and the profile is the typical large, round early ’50s style —comfortable and excellent for tone and sustain. The ES-125 has a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dots.
Pickup and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickup. All original and correct. The factory order number is missing the prefix letter A (A9421), making it one of the first guitars of 1952.
Comes with period-correct brown Gibson/Lifton hard case with faded brown lining. Edges have been taped.
