1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Goldtop (All Gold) – Unbound Neck
We present an all original 1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop in its original all-gold finish with an unbound neck. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
History
This is an exceptionally rare piece of Gibson history – one of the first 100 Les Paul Standard guitars produced. It features an unbound (no binding) mahogany neck and an “all gold” finish. The combination of these two features is incredibly rare to come across. It was only the first batch of approximately 100 Gibson Les Paul Goldtops that came with an unbound neck, diagonal adjustment screws on the bridge P-90, and a Gibson logo on the headstock where the dot over the “i” touches the “G.” Furthermore, an “all gold” finish was produced in a very limited quantity back then, especially combined with an unbound neck. There is no Gibson record of how many all-gold Les Pauls were made within the first 100.
Condition
Overall, this vintage 1952 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop is in excellent condition with minor nicks, dings, and other cosmetic wear. There is plenty of beautiful finish checking all over the body and neck, which adds to the breathtaking character of this incredible vintage Goldtop. There are no breaks or repairs on this guitar. The 1-piece mahogany neck shows playwear and heavy finish checking and features a beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard. The original frets still have plenty of life left in them. The six no-line Kluson tuners are in perfect working order and turn smoothly. The headstock is in remarkably clean condition. The pearl “Gibson” logo is intact, as is the “Les Paul Model” stencil, with all lettering fully visible.
Originality
This rare 1952 Goldtop is 100% all original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1952. It’s completely untouched, with no modifications – nothing has ever been changed. It features the original tall 5/8″ gold barrel-shaped knobs that were used on the early 1952 Gibson Les Paul models, fully intact and functional. It retains all the original nickel hardware, including the original wrap-under trapeze tailpiece. The two original P-90 pickups sound fantastic and are well-balanced. It is truly a wonderful and uniquely rare vintage Gibson guitar.
Pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.
Comes with a 1950s Gibson 4-latch “Cali-girl” Lifton hardshell case with a pink interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
