1954 Fender Deluxe Amp Tweed 5D3 – Wide Panel
We present an original 1954 Fender Deluxe Amp Tweed 5D3 – Wide Panel. Made in Fullerton, California.
This lovely wide panel Fender Deluxe Tweed shows some typical wear and scuffing, but boy, does it sing! This amp was wired up by Julia, who left her name on the masking tape tag inside the chassis. At the same time, some of the first production Stratocasters were just getting wired up down the line! The Tweed covering shows expected wear but is overall well-preserved. The chrome control panel and graphics are also very nicely preserved. The handle is a high-quality reproduction.
The amp retains its original Jensen P12R speaker. The transformers are also original — the power transformer is a Triad stamped 6452, and the output transformer is a Triad 246. The potentiometers seem to have been sourced in large quantities even at this early stage and often remained in Fender’s stock longer than many other components.
This amp has received a full servicing, including new capacitors and resistors, a modern 3-prong grounded power cord, and removal of the death cap. It has been properly biased to spec. All jacks, pots, and sockets have been thoroughly cleaned. The tubes are a mix: the rectifier is a GE Electronic 5Y3, the power tubes are 2x JAN Phillips 6V6, and the preamp tubes are Electro-Harmonix 12AX7.
This Fender Deluxe amp sounds fantastic, delivering a full, grinding overdrive palette at high volume and a snarly, twangy tone at lower levels. It’s a superb amplifier for both gigging and studio recording and an absolute joy to play through. Overall, this beautiful 1954 Fender Deluxe Tweed 5D3 is in excellent condition.
