1957 Gibson Southern Jumbo – Sunburst
We present an original 1957 Gibson Southern Jumbo in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Gibson Southern Jumbo shares the same fundamental construction as the iconic J-45, featuring a Sunburst-finished spruce top on a slope-shouldered mahogany jumbo body, paired with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. However, the Southern Jumbo offers upgraded aesthetics compared to the J-45. It boasts multiple layers of binding around the body and soundhole, along with a bound fingerboard adorned with pearloid double parallelogram inlays.
This 1957 Gibson Southern Jumbo is in very good condition. It features a full, rounded neck profile, a solid spruce top, and mahogany back and sides. The original Sunburst finish remains vibrant, showing only moderate signs of playwear, including small nicks, dings, and other light cosmetic wear. Tonally, it delivers a rich, resonant sound — an excellent example of the superior craftsmanship and tone of Gibson’s golden-era acoustics.
Includes the original black-painted hardshell case. All latches and the handle are in perfect working condition.
