1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Sunburst “Burst”

We present an original 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Sunburst “Burst”. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This is an outstanding and completely untouched holy grail 1959 “Burst”. Finding an all original and untouched Les Paul Standard from the most sought-after year —1959 — is increasingly like finding a needle in a haystack. This guitar is undoubtedly an eye-catcher in every sense.

This guitar has never been officially for sale on the market. Furthermore, this Burst is not even listed on burstserial.com — the serial numbers before and after this one are listed, but not this particular guitar. Now you have the rare opportunity to get it registered on burstserial.com.

Condition

Condition-wise, this guitar is in excellent shape with no breaks or repairs. It displays a beautiful amount of natural finish checking across the body and neck, as well as some expected nicks, dings, and cosmetic wear appropriate for a 65-year-old vintage guitar. Nothing has ever been changed. The original cherry sunburst finish has faded gorgeously, retaining shades of cherry around the upper bout and the guitar’s edges. Overall, it is in remarkably clean condition.

The most breathtaking aspect of this guitar is undoubtedly the incredibly flamed maple top — at certain angles, it almost resembles quilted maple. Truly one of the most stunning Les Paul tops we’ve ever seen. It features a one-piece mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck, and a dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid celluloid inlays. The original Kluson tuners turn and function perfectly, and they still have their original tuner buttons, which, remarkably, are fully intact and have not shrunken as many do over time. All the nickel hardware is clean, showing some wear. The original four butyrate gold top hat knobs are clean and turn smoothly.

The headstock on this incredible guitar is exceptionally clean. The ‘Gibson’ celluloid inlay is intact, and the ‘Les Paul Model’ silkscreen is, quite remarkably, fully visible and clean — something rare on Bursts. The guitar retains its original nut and frets, which still have plenty of life left.

Originality

This 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard is 100% original and untouched throughout. Every single screw and part is original to the guitar. It remains exactly as it left the Kalamazoo factory in 1959. It features two original double-white P.A.F. (Patent Applied For) humbuckers, which sound incredible — rich, balanced, and powerful. The pickups are completely undisturbed, and both retain their clean “Patent Applied For” decals.

The control cavity and toggle switch cavity are untouched and 100% factory stock. The pickups and all electronics/wiring remain original and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All components are 100% correct and unmodified.

Comes complete with its original brown hardshell case with pink interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
