Description & Specifications

1963 Fender Esquire – Blond

We present an all original 1963 Fender Esquire in its original Blond finish, made in Fullerton, California.

History

The Fender Esquire was introduced in 1950 as Fender’s first solid-body electric Spanish guitar. It was Leo Fender’s original production design and predates the Broadcaster/Nocaster/Telecaster evolution.

By 1951, the Esquire shared its platform with the Broadcaster (later Telecaster), but remained a single-pickup version with a three-way selector offering different tone circuit configurations, including the early “dark” preset tone.

In 1963, the Esquire was part of Fender’s pre-CBS production era (1950–1965), widely regarded as the golden period of Fender manufacturing. Instruments from this period were built in Fullerton, California, using traditional production methods prior to the CBS acquisition in 1965.

During the early 1960s, the Esquire was produced in relatively low numbers compared to the Telecaster, making original examples increasingly rare today.

Condition

This pre-CBS 1963 Fender Esquire is a rare find—especially in this exceptionally clean condition, showing only minor nicks, dings, and light cosmetic wear on the body. It features an extremely clean maple neck with a dark rosewood fingerboard and clay dot inlays.

The neck and headstock are as clean as they come, including the original decal. The single-line Kluson tuners are perfect and turn smoothly. Frets and nut also appear to be virtually untouched. The lightweight ash body gives this Esquire remarkable resonance and tonal response. The original Blond finish is exceptionally clean, with beautiful checking throughout. It has clearly been well-preserved in its original case for many years.

Originality

This vintage Fender Esquire is 100% original throughout with no modifications—completely untouched, just as it left the Fullerton factory in 1963. The original black-bottom pickup is strong and sounds absolutely phenomenal. It even includes the original bridge cover.

The pickup and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickup. All original and completely correct.

It even includes the original instruction manual, tolex tag and original polish cloth. A true time-capsule package.

Includes its original white tolex Fender hardshell case. Latches and handle are fully functional.
