Description & Specifications

1961 Fender Jazzmaster – Olympic White – Gold Hardware

We present an original early 1961 Fender Jazzmaster in its original Olympic White finish with gold hardware, made in Fullerton, California.

This pre-CBS 1961 Fender Jazzmaster is exceptionally rare, as it’s incredibly difficult to find an Olympic White (solid Custom Color) model from this era, especially one with factory gold hardware. A key detail confirming its authenticity: the original Fender masking tape behind the pickguard reads “Olympic White W. Gold.” The guitar itself is powerful, resonant, and remarkably versatile—everything you’d expect from a Fender built during the company’s golden era.

Condition

Cosmetically, the guitar shows significant buckle rash on the back, with various nicks and dings on the front and sides. There are areas of notable wear down to the bare wood, along with assorted minor scratches on the back. The original Olympic White finish has aged beautifully over time, but remains 100% original with no overspray. The gold hardware has also aged naturally, complementing the overall character of this outstanding Jazzmaster.

The maple neck has an exceptionally comfortable profile and features one of the most stunning and uniquely flamed necks we’ve seen on a pre-CBS Jazzmaster from this period. It boasts a dark rosewood slab fingerboard with clay dot inlays. The original frets remain in great condition with plenty of life left, including the original nut. The original black-bottom pickups are well-balanced, strong, and sound absolutely phenomenal. Overall, this is a stunning and historically significant Fender Jazzmaster.

Originality

This instrument is all original with the exception of one nickel tuner, which was replaced with a period-correct nickel One-Line Kluson tuner after the original broke. All other components are factory original, including the gold hardware and gold truss rod nut.

The pickups and electronics remain untouched and fully intact—no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups. All parts are original and correct.

The guitar comes with its original Fender brown hardshell case with yellow interior. All latches and the handle are in perfect working condition.
