1961 Gibson Les Paul (SG) Standard – Cherry

We present a 100% complete and all original early 1961 Gibson Les Paul (SG) Standard in its original Cherry finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This is a very early 1961 Les Paul SG Standard and probably one of the first produced. There is a few different indicators to this:  First of all, the serial number of this Gibson Les Paul is a 4-digit number, which was only on the earliest ones. Second of all, this and some early came with the blank truss rod cover, Gibson normally writing “Les Paul” on the truss rod cover. Third of all, this guitar comes with the original brown tolex case with pink interior before they began using black tolex cases.

This beautiful piece is true vintage beauty in absolutely stunning (excellent) condition with minor nicks, dings and other cosmetic wear. The Gibson Les Paul Standard (SG) has a great weight with a killer/resonant tone & feel. The Cherry finish is still strong Red with with tiny finish checking. This Gibson features 1-piece mahogany body and a 1-piece slender mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots.

Beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. Original frets shows minor wear and there are plenty of life left in them. Kluson Deluxe tuners are in perfect working condition, although 4 out of 6 of the original tuner buttons has crumble over time, like a lot of them tend to do. We recommend replacing the whole set with new replicas, and store the old ones in a little box in the case. That way you get the maximum potential of out this stunning guitar. They’re not replaced yet, because we left it up to the next buyer whether or not they should get replaced.

This 1961 Gibson features two fantastic “Patent Applied For” P.A.F humbuckers with covers & black bezels. They sound so fantastic and are very well balanced. Comes with dual volume & tone controls with black knobs and 3-way toggle switch. The original side-ways vibrola is in perfect working order alongside the nickel ABR-1 bridge. There is no cracks on the pickguard.

Pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups. All original and 100% correct.

The guitar comes with a super rare brown tolex Gibson Lifton hardshell case with pink interior. The original latches and handle are also intact.
