Description & Specifications

1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp AB763 – Blackface

We present an original 1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp AB763 – Blackface, made in Fullerton, California. ’64 Deluxe Reverbs are generally more rare and sought-after than later ’65, ’66, and subsequent production years.

Condition

This fantastic pre-CBS ’64 Deluxe Reverb is in exceptionally clean condition – it is very rare to come across an example this clean from 1964, featuring the no-logo front and the “Electric Instrument Co.” panel. These details identify this amp as an early version of one of the most sought-after amplifiers from the blackface line. The black tolex covering, handle, and grille cloth are in exceptionally clean, near-perfect condition with no visible flaws.

A true studio favourite, it delivers incredibly dynamic and glassy tube tones. The amp sounds absolutely incredible, including the reverb – a truly stunning example. The reverb is lush, with a long and smooth decay. The black control panel remains beautifully clean, with all lettering fully intact. It features original black tolex and grey grille cloth in excellent condition.

Originality

This 1964 Deluxe Reverb has been very well cared for over the years and was recently serviced to ensure perfect operation. The service includes installation of a new 3-prong power cord and removal of the “death cap,” which is essential for safe use. Otherwise, the original AB763 circuit is untouched and in excellent condition.

All transformers are original to the amplifier. It is fitted with a period-correct Oxford 12M6 speaker. While Deluxe Reverbs are more commonly seen with Oxford 12K5 speakers, this could very well be the original unit, as it is dated to the 32nd week of 1964 and aligns perfectly with the rest of the amp’s date codes. Its presence is entirely plausible, especially considering the overall originality and exceptional condition of the amplifier.

To keep the amp as original as possible, a step-down transformer is required for use in Europe. We have these in stock and they can be purchased through Guitar Hunter.

We are more than happy to provide further photos upon request. Simply contact us by email or phone for details, including internal components like the circuit, tubes, transformers and more.
