Description & Specifications

1964 Gibson Byrdland – Sunburst

We present an all original 1964 Gibson Byrdland in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Gibson Byrdland is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful guitars ever crafted. This top-of-the-line Florentine Byrdland is in excellent condition for its age. It features a carved spruce top reinforced with two parallel braces, solid maple back and sides, a maple neck with a medium-thick profile, and an ebony fretboard with inlaid pearl block position markers.

The headstock boasts an inlaid pearl “Gibson” logo and pearl flowerpot (“torch”) inlay. It has a two-layer (black over white) truss rod cover engraved with “Custom” in white. The original individual Kluson Sealfast tuners with tulip-shaped metal buttons are intact. The patent-number humbucker pickups are well-balanced and sound fantastic. The pickup covers remain undisturbed. Gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with nylon saddles on a rosewood base, and the distinctive three-loop tailpiece with “Byrdland” engraved on the crossbar complete the setup.

Overall, the condition is excellent, with light checking, nicks, dings, and other minor cosmetic wear. Some tarnishing on the gold-plated hardware adds to its vintage character. The original pickguard has shrunken — a common occurrence. The back and sides of the guitar, as well as the neck, display beautiful flame figuring. Some glued tape has been added under the bridge to prevent movement during play. A strap button has been installed on the neck heel.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1964.

The pickups and electronics remain untouched and fully intact, with no broken solder joints or re-wound pickups. All components are original and correct.

Includes the original black Gibson hardshell case with yellow lining. Latches and handle are fully functional.
