1964 Gibson Firebird V – Sunburst
We present an all original 1964 Gibson Firebird V in Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This exceptional Gibson Firebird V is from 1964 — the second year of production. The Firebird V was first introduced in 1963, and in 1964, Gibson produced just 510 units. The 1964 Firebird V was considered the equivalent of the SG Standard at the time.
It features a lightweight mahogany body with a one-piece mahogany neck. The bound rosewood fretboard includes trapezoid pearl inlays. It’s fitted with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic retainer bridge with metal saddles, and two patent-number mini-humbuckers with great, well-balanced output. The three-layer white-over-black plastic pickguard features a red-painted “Firebird” emblem and is mounted with eight screws; it shows a common small crack. Other features include gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops and individual Gibson Banjo-style tuners with rearward tulip-shaped metal buttons.
Overall, this 1964 Gibson Firebird V is in excellent condition with minor play wear, small nicks and dings, and beautiful finish checking. A superb example with no breaks or repairs.
It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1964.
The pickups and electronics remain completely untouched, with all solder joints intact — no rewound pickups. All original, and 100% correct.
Includes the original Gibson four-latch rectangular black hardshell case with orange plush lining. The handle has been replaced at some point, but all latches are fully functional.
