1965 Gibson J-45 – Cherry Sunburst
We present an original 1965 Gibson J-45 in its original Cherry Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Condition
This Gibson J-45 ADJ is in very good condition, with only a few nicks, dings, and light finish checking consistent with a well-played instrument. Despite its history, it has been carefully maintained. The guitar features a spruce top with beautifully grained mahogany back and sides, paired with a straight, clean mahogany neck and a rosewood fretboard in excellent condition. It features the 1-9/16″ nut width.
Structurally, the acoustic guitar is flawless, with no breaks or repairs on the body or neck. A truly great-sounding flat-top. The original frets remain with plenty of life, and the Cherry Sunburst finish, naturally faded over the decades, gives this J-45 an authentic vintage character that collectors and players alike will appreciate.
Originality
This ’65 J-45 is entirely original except for a newer nut and replaced white tuner buttons, preserving its factory essence. It comes with the original adjustable ceramic saddle, delivering that classic J-45 tone. It retains the original Kluson Deluxe one-line 3-on-a-plate strip tuners, a feature of this transition year just before Gibson switched to double-line tuners — making it a noteworthy detail for collectors. The original owner has written their initials with a pen inside the guitar (see pictures).
The truss rod functions perfectly, offering full adjustment range for setup and playability.
The guitar comes with a newer, non-original tweed hardshell case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
