Description & Specifications

1966 Fender Jazz Bass – Blue Ice Metallic

We present an original 1966 Fender Jazz Bass in its original Blue Ice Metallic finish with matching headstock. Made in Fullerton, California.

History

This incredible custom-color 1966 Fender Jazz Bass comes directly from the widow of the original owner. The custom color Blue Ice Metallic first appeared on the CBS color chart in 1965 and has since become one of the most sought-after finishes.

Condition

Overall, this CBS-era Fender Jazz Bass is in very good+ condition, with plenty of beautiful finish checking, nicks, dings, and other cosmetic wear. The original Blue Ice Metallic finish has faded to a gorgeous greenish-metallic hue over the years, adding incredible mojo and a breathtaking vibe to the instrument.
This is due to CBS Fender using more clear coat on their finishes than pre-CBS. In a few spots on the body, the clear coat has worn off, revealing the unfaded Blue Ice Metallic finish beneath. The maple neck shows considerable play wear and features a dark rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dots and binding—a stunning combination. And of course, the matching headstock is the perfect finishing touch. It features the original frets, which still have plenty of life left.

Originality

This bass is all original except for a newer nut, as the original had worn out. Otherwise, it’s exactly as it left the factory in 1966. The original “lollipop” tuners are in fantastic shape and work perfectly. The original white plastic pickguard is flawless, with no cracks. The two original pickups are well-balanced and sound great. It even includes the original bridge cover with foam and the original pickup cover—it’s all there.

The pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.

Comes with its original Fender hardshell case with orange interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
