1966 Fender Jazz Bass – Sonic Blue
We present an all original 1966 Fender Jazz Bass in its original Sonic Blue finish with matching headstock. Made in Fullerton, California.
This is an exceptionally rare Jazz Bass from early 1966. Overall, this custom color Sonic Blue example is well-played but remarkably well preserved. We are the third owner of this historic instrument. It shows only minimal nicks, dings, and other minor cosmetic wear.
Over the years, the original Sonic Blue finish has faded to a lighter green hue while still retaining traces of blue. The body displays beautiful finish checking throughout. It features a ’65 slim-tapered bound neck and a dark rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. The original lollipop tuners are in near-new condition and function flawlessly. Both frets and nut are virtually untouched, with plenty of life remaining. It even includes the original bridge cover with its foam mute, as well as the original pickup cover. Everything is intact.
The matching headstock and neck are exceptionally clean. The original white plastic pickguard is flawless, with no cracks or breaks. This Jazz Bass is highly resonant and an outstanding player, with a tone that leans slightly more toward the low/midrange compared to many examples from the era. Both pickups are well balanced and sound excellent.
it’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Fullerton factory back in 1966.
The pickups and electronics remain completely untouched, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All components are original and correct.
Includes the original Fender black-logo hardshell case. Latches and handle are fully functional.
