Description & Specifications

1966 Gibson Melody Maker D – Pelham Blue (All Blue)

We present an all original 1966 Gibson Melody Maker D in its original Pelham Blue finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This 1966 Gibson Melody Maker D in Pelham Blue is extremely rare, as it features a fully painted solid body and neck. Unlike the standard production models — where only the body was painted and the mahogany neck had a natural clear coat — this guitar is finished entirely in Pelham Blue, including the neck. Very few were produced in this full-body painted configuration.

It features a one-piece mahogany neck and a one-piece mahogany body, delivering a rich, resonant tone. The two single-coil pickups are responsive and well-balanced. The guitar is in great condition, with some nicks, dings, finish checking, and other minor cosmetic wear. The original pickguard has yellowed with age and shows some wear. There are no breaks or repairs. The original Pelham Blue finish remains vibrant, with slight fading and greenish spots developing over time. Overall, it’s a superb example of a vintage Gibson solid-body electric guitar, featuring a full-size neck and standard scale length. It plays beautifully and looks stunning in its rare Pelham Blue finish.

The SG-style Melody Maker has a comfortable, rounded neck profile, a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, and a factory-installed “Maestro” tremolo tailpiece.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1966.

The pickups and electronics remain completely untouched, with no broken solder joints or rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.

Includes its original Gibson chipboard case. All latches and the handle are fully functional.
