Description & Specifications

1968 Gibson ES-335 TD – Sparkling Burgundy

We present an original 1968 Gibson ES-335 TD in its original Sparkling Burgundy finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This Gibson ES-335 is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It is all original except for new frets and a new nut. Otherwise it’s exactly like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1968.

The stock “Patent Number” sticker humbuckers are powerful and articulate. The maple semi-hollowbody construction delivers a quick attack characteristic of this tonewood, along with an airy, warm tonal quality.

Acoustically, the tone is clear and resonant, and this quality translates beautifully to the pickups. The neck features a profile unique to Gibsons from 1966–1968—starting as a fairly slender C-shape at the nut and growing quickly in both depth and shoulder to a more substantial neck feel.

This ES-335 retains its original Sparkling Burgundy finish. The color has faded into a copper-like hue that looks striking and full of vintage character. There is extensive, attractive finish checking across the body, along with various nicks, dings, and natural cosmetic wear that comes from years of loving play.

The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid block inlays. The headstock shows minor nicks and dings and is fitted with the original Kluson Deluxe double-line/double-ring tuning machines — all of which turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. The orange oval Gibson label has clean text and a serial number that matches the stamped number on the back of the headstock. The bridge is the original chrome Gibson Tune-o-Matic. The original chrome trapeze tailpiece is intact, along with the black hat knobs, stock pickguard, switch tip, and pickup covers.

The pickups and electronics remain untouched and original, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. Everything is original and correct.

Includes the original hardshell case with a black exterior and plush yellow/orange interior. All latches and the handle are intact.
