1946 K&F Lap Steel – Maple
History
Before Leo Fender began making electric guitars and basses, he and Doc Kauffman founded K&F during the 40’s producing Lap Steels and amplifiers. This 1946 K&F Lap Steel is coming from the collector Terry Foster co-writer of the book “Fender: The Golden Age 1946-1970” on page 16. It’s the third version of their Lap Steel model improved with a chrome Headstock-plate, Crome nut, chrome metal fingerboard with black position markers.
Condition
Overall this very rare K&F Lap Steel is in incredible shape with minor nicks, dings and other cosmetic wear. All the chrome on this lap steel is shiny and clean and the position markers is clean with no fading.
Originality
Featuring the original direct string pickup, that Leo Fender and Doc Kauffman developed together in 1943 mounted to a chromed control plate with a simple volume and tone controls. The black tuner-buttons are replaced since they have shrunken over time which is common.
