Description & Specifications

1961 Fender Jazz Bass – Sunburst

We present an all original and 100% complete 1961 Fender Jazz Bass in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Fullerton, California.

History

This is a very exceptional example, and such instruments are extremely hard to find in fully original and complete condition. A true collector’s piece and one of the most sought-after vintage basses ever built.

The Fender Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960, and the very first models featured the iconic stack knob controls. These early versions were only produced until early 1962, making them highly desirable among collectors and players worldwide.

Condition

Overall, this outstanding vintage 1961 Jazz Bass is in excellent condition. It shows natural play-wear with nicks, dings, and other cosmetic marks that only add character and authenticity, making this one of the most desirable vintage Fender Jazz Basses available today. The original frets remain in excellent shape with plenty of life left. The neck and headstock are as clean as they come, complete with the original decal perfectly intact. The bass features a beautiful dark slab-board rosewood fingerboard with clay dots, delivering outstanding tone and a huge, warm, dark-sounding response.

Originality

This 1961 Fender Jazz Bass is 100% original throughout, exactly as it left the Fender factory in Fullerton in 1961. It even retains its original chrome covers and the original string mutes – a rare complete set.

The original pickups sound fantastic and remain strong and healthy. All four original tuners turn smoothly. The electronics and wiring are untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. Everything is fully original, correct.

Comes complete with the original brown hardshell case with yellow interior. The latches and handle are in perfect working order. The case shows damage to the bottom and some of the yellow interior have been repaired but remains fully functional.
