Description & Specifications

1961 Gibson Melody Maker D – Sunburst

We present an all original 1961 Gibson Melody Maker D in Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This Gibson is incredibly charming, with a great neck and wonderful tone. Overall, the guitar is in exceptional condition and perfect working order. There are a few nicks, dings, and other minor cosmetic signs of playwear — just a very well-preserved example with a beautiful original Sunburst nitrocellulose finish. It features solid Honduran mahogany body construction, a one-piece mahogany neck, and a dark rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays. The pair of single-coil pickups sounds fantastic — strong and well-balanced.

The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a comfortable C-shape with full-feeling shoulders in every register, offering notable heft and chunk as you move up the fingerboard. The original frets have plenty of life left, and it retains the original nylon 1-11/16″ nut. The original tuning machines are clean, turn smoothly, and hold pitch well, with the original white buttons intact.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1961.

The pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and correct.

Comes with its original Alligator chipboard case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
