Description & Specifications

1964 Fender Stratocaster – Sunburst

We present an all original 1964 Fender Stratocaster in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Fullerton, California.

History

We acquired this exceptional pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster in late 2022 directly from the widow of the original owner here in Denmark. According to her, her husband purchased the guitar new from a local music store in 1964. We sold it shortly after acquiring it, but were fortunate enough to trade it back in from the customer who bought it in 2022. He has truly cherished and played the guitar for the past three years.

Condition

This Fender Stratocaster has seen genuine, loving use since 1964 — and it shows. The body and sides display notable playwear where the finish has worn through. The guitar resonates beautifully, both acoustically and electrically. It features a dark rosewood fretboard with clay dots and an eye-catching Birdseye maple neck that exhibits tasteful playwear throughout. There is a typical small corner crack in the plastic tremolo backplate.

The original frets and nut are still in decent condition with some life left in them. The original set of 6x single-line Kluson tuners are fully functional. The guitar also retains its original and rare 4-ply celluloid green pickguard with a white top layer.

Originality

This stunning ’64 Stratocaster is 100% original throughout, with no modifications or repairs. It’s exactly as it left the Fender factory in Fullerton before being shipped to the European market. It still features all three original single-coil pickups — two with black bottoms and one with a grey bottom. All pickups are untouched, well-balanced, and sound incredible.

Notably, it retains the original “spaghetti” Fender logo, which is rare for this year. In 1964, Fender transitioned to the new logo style, but “spaghetti” logos were still used for some export models like this one.

The electronics and wiring are completely untouched—no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups, and all components are original and correct.

Includes the original Hagström export hardshell case, with all latches and the handle in perfect working order.
