1964 Gibson J-50 – Natural
We present an original 1964 Gibson J-50 in its original Natural finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
This is a one-owner guitar and comes complete with its original matching-number hang tag and original hardshell case.
This Gibson features a very select, high-grade spruce top with beautiful medullary rays. There is a strong possibility this is Engelmann spruce, exhibiting a lovely chatoyancy. The back, sides, and neck are crafted from mahogany, with particularly striking grain patterns. The back and sides are in great condition with no cracks or repairs — only a few small nicks and dings. The back of the peghead shows slight chipping from leaning against walls.
A few fine, snaky finish checks and minor dings are visible, but none are deep or puckered.
There are two notable dings in the finish, along with a few very light scrapes. No large areas of wear are present, though there is a small spot of fingernail wear at the bottom of the pickguard, near the end of the bridge. The guitar features a beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard and bridge. This vintage Gibson is adorned with cream-black-cream top binding, and single cream binding on the back and sides, all naturally aged. Original Kluson Deluxe tuners. Original truss rod cover. Fingerboard wear in the first position has been milled and filled as part of a recent professional refret. A recent neck reset has also been performed by a skilled luthier.
All original finish with no touch-ups or overspray. No strap button has ever been installed on the heel. This guitar offers excellent setup and playability. The tone is outstanding, even with the original adjustable ceramic saddle.
