Description & Specifications

1965 Gibson SG Standard – Cherry

We present an all original 1965 Gibson SG Standard in its original Cherry finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This gorgeous piece is a true vintage beauty in Excellent+ condition. It was purchased directly from the original owner in December 2021. The Gibson SG has a great weight with killer, resonant tone and feel. Overall, the guitar has a beautiful look with only minor play wear. The Cherry finish remains a strong red with slight finish checking. This Gibson features a 1-piece slender mahogany narrow neck with nicely aged cream binding and black side dots. Beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays. The original frets show minor wear, and there is plenty of life left in them. Kluson Deluxe tuners are in perfect working condition.

The neck is straight, and the truss rod is fully functional. There was a small seam separation (only on the bass side) that has been repaired with a bit of glue — no breaks, just the common minor seam separation. We include before and after photos.

The solid mahogany body is also 1-piece. Gibson “Lyre” chrome tremolo tailpiece and Nickel ABR-1 bridge with adjustable nylon saddles. In 1965, Gibson was transitioning from nickel to chrome hardware, so during this period, it’s very common to find a mix of nickel and chrome hardware. The black pickguard is in great shape with no cracks and only slight warping. Gibson “Patent Number” humbuckers with chrome covers and black bezels. Dual volume and tone controls with black knobs and a 3-way toggle switch.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1965.

The original case offered with this SG features a black exterior and plush yellow/orange interior. The original latches and handle are also intact.

Pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no re-wound pickups. All original and correct. Even comes complete with its original hang tags and manual.
