Description & Specifications

1966 Martin D-18 – Natural

We present an original C.F. Martin D-18 in its original Natural finish. Made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

While this may appear to be a more traditional example of a D-18, it delivers exceptional power and projection. This vintage model features mahogany back, sides, and neck, paired with a premium-grade top – possibly Red Spruce or Engelmann Spruce. The back is bound in tortoise, and the top has multiple tortoise bindings. It retains its original pickguard, and the headstock showcases a beautiful rosewood overlay with the C.F. Martin & Co. decal logo at the top. The rosewood fingerboard and bridge are both original, with graduated dot inlays along the fingerboard.

The frets have been replaced and professionally milled. They show moderate player wear. The original small maple bridge plate remains intact and in excellent condition. There is a repaired pickguard crack below the high E string. The guitar features a bone nut and saddle, and a strap button has been professionally installed at the heel. The tuners are original Grover “Patent Pending” Rotomatics.

This instrument has been well maintained. A professional neck reset was completed several years ago, and both the frets and fingerboard have been carefully preserved. The pickguard has never been removed. The bridge has been reglued, and there is minor repaired spruce splintering in front of the bridge from its removal during the reglue process. A small ding at the butt of the guitar resulted in two short, parallel cracks. There is light wear on the treble side of the fingerboard extension and around the soundhole rosette. You’ll also find typical finish checking, with some scattered dings and scratches throughout. Overall, this is a well-preserved vintage guitar in excellent condition.
