1969 Gibson SG Custom – Walnut
We present an all original 1969 Gibson SG Custom in its original Walnut finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
History
The SG Custom officially began life when the Les Paul moniker was dropped from what we now call the SG body, after its brief run from 1961–1963. The SG Custom featured three humbuckers and a Lyre tremolo, with a white finish until ’68, when the standard finish became Walnut.
Condition
This 1969 Gibson SG Custom is super clean, and we have graded it as near mint condition. It looks like it left the factory yesterday. Even comes complete with all the original hang tags. The 1969 model has no “Made in USA” stamp and no volute on the back of the headstock. It’s the real 1969 model — far more attractive. It features a solid mahogany body, 3-piece neck with bound ebony fingerboard and MOP inlays. The mahogany neck has a very nice and comfortable medium C-shape that is a joy to play. Original Maestro Lyre tremolo is in perfect working order. All the gold hardware is clean and shiny — looks like new.
Originality
This historical Gibson SG is 100% all original throughout, just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1969. The original Gibson pickups with “patent sticker” humbuckers sound fantastic and are well-balanced. The pickup covers have never been disturbed. The controls include a 3-position toggle switch (neck, middle/bridge, and bridge) and volume/tone controls for the neck and bridge pickups. The middle pickup is wired out of phase—this is original from the factory.
Pickups and all electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints and no rewound pickups. All original and 100% correct.
Comes with its original Gibson hardshell case with yellow interior. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
