Description & Specifications

1931 Gibson L-0 – Natural

We present an original 1931 Gibson L-0 in its original Natural finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This 12-fret Gibson flat-top hails from the Great Depression era. In 1931, Gibson introduced the L-0 as an X-braced, all-mahogany acoustic guitar with a natural finish. It features the small silver script “The Gibson” logo and the older, thin natural lacquer finish — both of which were discontinued after 1932. The finish on this guitar is 100% original, with no overspray or alterations.

Overall, this vintage Gibson acoustic guitar is in exceptionally clean condition. It shows only minimal pick wear on the top, along with a few small nicks, dings, and cosmetic case marks on the sides. There are no breaks or repairs to the top, back, or sides. One internal brace had a crack, which has been professionally repaired.

These lightly built, 12-fret pre-war models are revered for their outstanding fingerstyle and blues tone — offering a rich, resonant, and musical sound. The neck has a comfortable, rounded C-shaped profile, which many players find superior to the deeper V-shape introduced when Gibson switched to 14-fret necks. The frets retain their original height and crown. The original tuners remain shiny and functional with intact buttons. Even the black plastic bridge pins and end pin are all original.

This Gibson L-0 has been professionally set up with low action along the entire neck. The saddle remains at factory height with action set perfectly at the 12th fret. Any light scratches or rub marks from case handling are clearly shown in the photos.

It’s hard to believe this guitar is nearly 90 years old — its condition and playability are truly exceptional.

Comes complete with its original case and a vintage Nick Manoloff instructional booklet.
