Description & Specifications

1968 Gibson EB-2D – Sunburst

History

We present an all original 1968 Gibson EB-2D in its original Sunburst finish, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Introduced in 1966 as the dual-pickup version of the EB-2 — the “D” standing for Dual — the EB-2D combined Gibson’s classic semi-hollow construction with expanded tonal versatility.

This example features a laminated maple body, one-piece mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The powerful neck-position EB humbucker and bridge mini-humbucker, together with the original “Baritone” switch and three-way selector, deliver the unmistakable late-1960s Gibson bass tone — deep, warm, and articulate.

Condition

This Gibson bass remains in overall excellent condition. The original Sunburst finish presents beautifully, showing only minor nicks, small dings, and light cosmetic wear. There are no breaks, no cracks, and no repairs. The neck is solid and structurally sound, offering excellent playability. The original frets are in very good condition with plenty of life remaining.

The chrome hardware is clean and well preserved. Overall, the instrument feels lively and resonant, with a strong acoustic response and inspiring playing feel.

Originality

This instrument is 100% original throughout — just as it left the Kalamazoo factory in 1968.

The pickups and all electronics remain entirely untouched and intact, with no disturbed solder joints and no rewound pickups. The four original witch hat knobs are present and in clean condition. It retains its original chrome hardware and stud-mounted compensated bridge/tailpiece assembly.

Comes complete with its original chipboard case. The case is functional but remains fragile.
