The Fender Blackface Line (1963–1967)

The Fender Blackface line, produced between late 1963 and 1967, stands as one of the most iconic and sought-after eras in amplifier history. With their signature black control panels, silver sparkle grille cloth, and refined AB763 circuitry, these amps became legendary for their bright, clean tones, lush tube-driven reverb, and smooth tremolo.

Models like the Deluxe Reverb, Princeton Reverb, Super Reverb, and Twin Reverb set the standard for American amplifier design—but none are rarer or more revered than the Fender Vibroverb. Produced only from 1963 to 1965, the Vibroverb was the first Fender amp to combine reverb and tremolo, and is now closely associated with players like Stevie Ray Vaughan for its warm, dynamic response and rich breakup.

While the Blackface era is generally dated to 1964–1967, many transitional models exist. Fender often used leftover parts across model years, so you may find Blackface amps from late 1963—or even early 1968—with all the classic features intact.

At Guitar Hunter, we specialize in original vintage Fender Blackface amplifiers and have had many exceptional examples pass through our store over the years. Whether you’re looking to buy, sell, or appraise a Vibroverb, Deluxe Reverb, or any other Blackface model, we bring deep knowledge, historical insight, and a true passion for vintage tone.
