Description & Specifications

1962 Fender Vibrasonic Amp 6G13 – Brownface

We present an original 1962 Fender Vibrasonic Amp 6G13 brownface, made in Fullerton, California.

This rare Vibrasonic features Fender’s unique “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit — a complex design that was Fender’s only true pitch-shifting vibrato offered in an amplifier. Swampy, thick, and very Leslie-esque, it delivers a three-dimensional, full-bodied tone unlike any other Fender vibrato. It is the perfect middle ground between the dynamic, saturated tones of the earlier Tweed era amps and the clarity and shimmering cleans of the later Blackface line.

This Fender Vibrasonic offers a very warm and nuanced sound, with massive transformers that keep the low end thick and focused. The 6G13 circuit provides EQ controls with a wide sweep, ranging from classic hollow twang to warm, sweet tones that will delight any jazz player. The 15″ JBL speaker delivers plenty of clean headroom, but once you go above 5 on the volume dial, the amp cascades into raucous, touch-sensitive overdrive. Perfect for guitar, bass, or keyboards, this versatile amp pairs well with just about any instrument from the era.

Overall, this Fender brownface amp is in great original condition. All transformers are original to the amplifier. The speaker has been replaced with a period-correct one that has been reconed. The circuit has been serviced and thoroughly checked by an amp technician, with new capacitors and resistors installed to ensure perfect operation. It is stocked with NOS tubes and has a new 3-prong power cable installed.

Cosmetically, the original brown Tolex is in excellent shape, featuring original feet glides and even the original plastic handle. The grill cloth shows some wear and tear but has no holes. The control plate is clean, and the graphics are perfectly intact.

To keep the amp as original as possible, a step-down transformer is required. We have these in stock and they can be purchased through Guitar Hunter.
