Description & Specifications

1973 Gibson Les Paul Signature – Goldtop

We present an all original 1973 Gibson Les Paul Signature Goldtop. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This Gibson is from the first year of production. The Les Paul Signature was a semi-hollowbody guitar produced in the ’70s. Like the Les Paul Recording, the Signature used low-impedance plastic-covered pickups, with the word “Gibson” added to the pickup covers. The Goldtop version of this guitar further increases its value.

Overall, this guitar is in excellent condition, with minor nicks, dings, finish checking, and other cosmetic wear. No breaks or repairs.

The guitar features two outputs for hi-fi and low-fi circuits, plus a phase switch. When used normally, it has just one volume and one tone control. It delivers a very full and rich, yet slightly sterile tone, making it excellent for board control in recording situations. Gibson created a unique sound by equipping this beauty with mini humbuckers, producing a true vintage tone. The Les Paul Signature also features two input jacks: a low-impedance jack on the side of the instrument and a standard jack on the face of the guitar.

The controls are non-standard as well. There is a three-way impedance knob, allowing the player to switch between 50, 250, and 500 ohms. This changes the resistance in the circuit, altering output levels and overall tone. There is also a switch for taking the pickups out of phase when in the middle position, dramatically changing the tone by thinning it out and creating an almost Stratocaster-like quacking sound. The other two knobs are master volume and master tone.

It’s 100% original throughout – Just like it left the Kalamazoo factory back in 1973.

All pickups and electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints or re-wound pickups. Completely original and correct.

Comes complete with its original hardshell case. The latches are in perfect working order, but the handle is broken.
