We present an exceptionally rare Gibson custom Shop. This is one of the most iconic guitars that Gibson ever made. Overall, this guitar is in excellent + condition and it’s pre-owned by a collector. So, the guitar is like new.
History:
Only one hundred guitars were made in 2013.
In 1957/58, Gibson made a handful of Les Pauls with humbucker pickups. At this time, Les Paulswere “Goldtops” and number 7-8789 left the Kalamazoo factory on December 19, 1957. The guitar was originally owned by John Sebastian of Lovin’ Spoonful, but he gave it to Rick Derringer of the McCoys to replace a blown amplifier (can you imagine that?). Derringer returned to Kalamazoo and had the Bigsby removed and the guitar refinished in SG Cherry. He never quite connected with the instrument and subsequently sold it to Dan Armstrong’s Guitar Shop in NYC, where it lasted a couple of days before being purchased by Eric Clapton.
In August 1968, Clapton gave the guitar to George Harrison of the Beatles, who promptly named it “Lucy” after the famed red-haired comedian Lucille Ball. Later that year, Harrison invited Clapton to the studio, where he recorded “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” using the iconic axe.
Gibson spared no expense building the instrument, recreating every detail down to the holes alongside the bridge where the Bigsby once stood. The aging is near perfect, complete with cigarette burns (Harrison and Clapton guitars typically have these markings). The finish is exquisite. The pickups are awesome sounding, with great diversity. The fretboard is a deep rosewood, which perfectly compliments the cherry finish.
The set comes complete with all the original hang tags and certificate of Authenticity with Eric Clapton’s original signature. This piece is a rare find indeed, in the years that have passed since the reissue, only a handful have sold on the open market.
George Harrison has sadly left us, but this guitar is forever linked to both Clapton and Harrison and as Clapton ages, this guitar is sure to increase in value as have other Clapton reissues (“Blackie”, “Beano”). If you´re looking for an investment piece, or want a unique playing instrument (it´s aged, so don’t worry about wear), this is the ultimate Les Paul.
