We present a 1961 Gibson ES-330TD in great condition. Aside from a professional refret, newer bone nut, three replaced saddle screws (The originals are in the case) this guitar is all original and boasts all of the features of this model’s first iteration.
This early model comes with “Mickey Mouse Ear” notably rounded double cutaways on the body, black pickup covers, dot inlay on the rosewood fretboard, nickel hardware, Bumblebee Tone Caps.
This Es-330TD is so acoustically resonant, the fullness of the unplugged tone translates very well through the pickups, which deliver a very dynamic and nuanced tone, with the heft and midrange fullness that only comes with the combination of a fully hollow body and a good pair of P-90 pickups!
The mahogany neck has a slim C shaped profile that gains a bit of depth as you move into the higher registers of the fretboard and has a full 1 11/16″ nut width. The rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, only seen on the first few years of this model’s production. The original Kluson Deluxe single line tuners are intact, and these tuners turn smoothly with their original white buttons. The serial number is very clean on the back of the headstock and the “Gibson” logo is in pearl inlay on the headstock face.
The electronics are completely stock, with original CTS pots and “Bumblebee” Tone Caps visible through the treble side F hole. The bridge is the original nickel ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic with no retainer wire. The original nickel trapeze tailpiece is intact, as well as the stock pickguard, switch tip, pickup covers, and gold reflector cap knobs.
The original nitro lacquer Sunburst finish is warm and the body shows notable vertical lacquer checking on the top and back, with a couple slivers down to the bare maple on the lower bout bass side of the top. The neck profile has beautiful lacquer checking as well.
The hardware shows great patina on the ABR-1 bridge, and lighter patina on the nickel tailpiece and tuning gear housings. A previous owner has written their name next to the “ES-330TD” factory stamp.
A crack-free example that’s been lovingly played.
The earliest, rarest, and most valuable case offered with the ES-330, this case was made by Lifton, with brown exterior and plush pink interior. The original latches and handle are also intact.
Pickups and the electronics/wiring remains untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups. All original and correct.
