1969 Fender Mustang Competition – Burgundy
We present an all original 1969 Fender Mustang Competition in its original Burgundy finish with matching headstock. Made in Fullerton, California.
This model is quite rare to come across and therefore have become more desirable over the years. Fender introduced the Competition Mustang in 1969 in the color’s Burgundy, Red and Orange. They stopped during matching headstock for this model in 1971, therefore there’s only a short time-window where this model was produced. Fun fact, this is the exact same year and model as the one owned by Kurt Cobain and used in the ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ music video.
Condition
Overall this ’69 Mustang is in excellent condition with minor nicks, dings and other cosmetic wear. It has some beautiful finish checking all over the body and neck, which all adds up to the incredible atmosphere of this guitar. The original Burgundy finish has faded a bit over the years and has turned into a more green-ish color. The pearl white pickguard is in great shape as well. The original frets have a lot of life left in them including the nut.
Originality
This CBS Fender Mustang Competition is 100% all original just like it left the Fullerton factory back in 1969. It even comes with the original tremolo-arm and bridge cover. The 2x original pickups sound fantastic and are well-balanced. The 6x original Fender tuners turns smoothly and incredibly enough still features the original tuner buttons.
Pickups and the electronics/wiring remain untouched and intact, with no broken solder joints, no re-wound pickups. All original and 100% correct.
Comes with its original Fender hardshell case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.
