Gibson Les Paul Classic

Since its conception in 1952, the iconic Gibson Les Paul had huge significance in shaping rock and roll, and to this day, the warm, and thick tone from the double P90 or humbucker pickups is still highly recognisable due to its countless contributions to modern music legacy.

With the Les Paul Classic, Gibson decided to blend the original Les Paul characteristics with modern guitar engineering. The result is a cut price specimen that both sounds and looks the part of a Standard model plus it weighs less and comes with a coil tap.

Revisiting the Standard’s design

The Les Paul Classic is a modern take on the Les Paul Standard from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

From 1990 to 1998, Gibson produced the first Les Paul Classics, and due to high demands, they started production anew in 2000 up until 2008 and have kept building since 2014.

Gibson were interested in continuing the traditional design while bringing some extra comfort and functionality to the table. Besides from the zebra-coloured pickups, it’s actually difficult to tell the Classic and the Standard apart – especially when both of them have the iconic Heritage Cherry Sunburst colour.

What makes the Classic stand out?

Back in 1983, Gibson launched the Les Paul Studio, which was in many ways a modern reinvention of the original Les Paul – both musically and cosmetically. In comparison, the Les Paul Classic is a complete throwback to the style of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
