1957 Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo – Sunburst

We present an original 1957 Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo in Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo features the same basic construction as the more familiar J-45 with a Sunburst spruce top on a slope-shouldered mahogany jumbo body, with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. The cosmetics of the SJ Southern Jumbo are fancier than the J-45 all around. There are multiple layers of binding around the body and soundhole; the fingerboard is bound with pearloid double parallelogram inlays.

This Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo is in very good condition. It has a rounded big neck profile, spruce top and mahogany back & sides. The original Sunburst finish is excellent shape with some play-wear spots, nicks, dings and other cosmetic wear. The guitar has a big resonant tone and plays and sounds fantastic.  Just a great sounding acoustic from Gibson’s Golden Age.

Comes with its original hardshell case. It is painted black on the outside. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.

Repair that has been done by a respected and accomplished luthier.

  • Filled strap button hole on the back of the neck.
  • Grover tuners was installed. Filled the holes / sealed and reinstalled a set of correct vintage Klusons. Repair around the holes on the front and back of the headstock after a set of correct Kluson tuners.
