1948 Gibson SJ-200 – Sunburst

We present a historical and the finest post-war Gibson. An original 1948 Gibson SJ-200 in its original Sunburst finish. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The SJ-200’s construction and aesthetic beauty makes it one of the most sought after acoustic models that Gibson ever produced. There is no doubt, that this piece was crafted out of the finest materials that where available on the Kalamazoo, Michigan back in late 40’s. It’s remarkably comfortable guitar and sounds unbelievable and have so much volume, power and punchy woody tone. This flat-top has the most gorgeous flamed maple on the back and sides, spruce top, bound dark rosewood fingerboard with pearl inlays. Single bound headstock, pearl Gibson logo and crown inlays. Sunburst finish to all sides. The gold Kluson open-back tuners with plastic tulip buttons. White oval label visible through the soundhole.

The original rosewood mustache bridge plate is intact and are in good shape. On the spruce top there is repaired crack below high E-string and and two other small top repair cracks. Overall this flat-top has been well cared for its age but has a lot play wear and patina with lacquer finish checking all around the body. A professional neck reset and other repairs is performed by my luthier. The beautiful dark rosewood fretboard has got brand new frets. The bindings around the neck has been reglued with one new side-dot. Newer nut and brand new bone saddle after the neck reset. The skunk stripe that runs on the back of the figured/flamed maple neck, has been sanded a little so its in level. The pickguard has shrunken and caused the typical crack next to the fretboard below high E-string. Pickguard has professionally glued back on again.

The neck has a full and round carve, 1-11/16″ nut width.

One of the most rarest Gibson cases is included. An original 1930’s Gibson Red Stripe Tweed case. Latches and handle is in perfect working order.
