We present an original 1937 C.F. Martin 0-18 Shadetop – pre-War from the Golden Era. Made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania.

Overall, this flat-top is extremely rare and sought after and they rarely come up for sale. So much sound in this little body. Just the best period from C.F. Martin for sure. C.F. Martin made only 13 Shadetop 0-18 this year. Full pre-War specs including Adirondack Spruce top, 1-3/4″ nut width and original Grover tuners. This Martin guitar features ebony fingerboard & bridge. Gorgeous mahogany back and sides.

This C.F. Martin Shadetop is in great condition for its age. Beautiful play-wear around the body with nicks, dings and other cosmetic wear. New frets, nut and neck-reset.  The ebony bridge has been cleaned and reglued with a new bone saddle. Very few crack repairs has been done. No overspray, no touch up. All original finish. All work done by the most respected and accomplished Martin luthier; TJ Thompson.

Comes with an original 1950’s era Harptone / Martin hardshell case. Latches and handle are in perfect working order.

History about shaded top.

The C.F. Martin company finished most of their guitars in a clear natural finish, but some of them received the coveted shaded top (or sunburst) finish. Martin did far fewer sunburst guitars than Gibson back in the golden era of acoustic guitars but they were equally as beautiful. They’re also far more coveted by collectors than their natural finished counterparts and therefore more susceptible to wild price fluctuations and hidden surprises.
