1964 Fender Champ Amp 5F1 – Narrow Panel – Black Tolex
We present an original 1964 Fender Champ Amp 5F1 – Narrow Panel – Black Tolex. Made in Fullerton, California.
This vintage Fender Champ amplifier is a rare example from Fender’s golden era, produced with Black Tolex only between 1963 and 1964. Fender introduced the Black Tolex design for the 5F1 Narrow Panel Champ Amp to better align aesthetically with the newly released Blackface Fender amps, before replacing it with the Blackface AA764 Champ and Vibro-Champ in the fall of 1964.
Overall, this amp is in excellent and original condition, with minimal wear on the Black Tolex. The grille cloth is also in stunning condition—fully intact with no holes. The faceplate shows some signs of wear, as most of the stenciled lettering has worn off. However, the serial number on the faceplate remains clear and visible, showing C21744. One screw is missing on the right side of the back panel.
As with any 5F1 Champ, it features a single “chicken head” volume knob and a single-ended 6V6-driven power section, delivering approximately 5 watts of output power into a single 8″ speaker. The original CTS 8″ speaker is present and in perfect working order.
Since this Black Tolex Champ still features the 5F1 circuit, it includes the 3 original tubes: 5Y3GT, 6V6GT, and 12AX7. The original 2-prong power cord has been replaced with a newer one — still a 2-prong.
The original tube chart is also present and very clean, with crisp corners. It bears the ink-stamp “ND,” indicating assembly in April 1964.
To keep the amp as original as possible, a step-down transformer is required. We have these in stock and they can be purchased through Guitar Hunter.
